Nowen = Nicholas Owen
Nicholas Owen was a master carpenter and Jesuit lay person who served during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I in England.
He traveled throughout England under assumed aliases (e.g. "Little John, Carpenter") building hiding places for priests in the houses of those sympathetic to the Catholic Church, which at the time was essentially outlawed in England. Besides this, he is said to have masterminded the escape of Jesuit priests from the tower of London, even though burdened by a hernia and a leg crippled from a falling horse.
Most notably, he was twice subjected to torture on the rack by English authorities, breaking only once - and that, only physically, resulting in his death. The Catholic Church canonized Nicholas Owen in 1970.
Nowen Digital is named in honor of this master craftsman who lived a life of quiet dedication and sacrifice.
